When you think of great live music, abundant entertainment, live sports, do you think of…. Greensboro, NC? Yes it's possible if you happen to live nearby to the Greensboro Coliseum complex- a multi-building facility designed to deliver events of all kinds - concerts, athletic, cultural arts, theater and conventions. How about no driving and parking hassles because you can walk to it from Stella's Place Apartments? Plus there are great restaurants and bars nearby to pre-game!
The Greensboro Coliseum Complex (https://www.greensborocoliseum.com/) has it all, with events of one type of another almost every day of the week. In fact, last year they had 1,100 events across their buildings. And it’s all within walking distance of Stella’s Place Apartments, the Brice Street Area of Greensboro, and UNCG.
The current Coliseum (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greensboro_Coliseum_Complex) opened in 1959 and hosted the Monkees (the first act to play at the new arena) and Elvis Presley, among many others.
The Coliseum has been expanded and renovated multiple times since then and has hosted the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament since 1967 (although the tournament now rotates annually among venues). The War Memorial Auditorium, a venue since replaced within the Complex, has hosted Ray Charles, James Brown and Aretha Franklin. The Coliseum Complex also includes the Greensboro Aquatic Center, the Novant Health Field House and multiple theaters and auditoriums. The Coliseum Complex offers great things to see and do every day of the year.
Alternative rock bank Blue October (https://www.blueoctober.com/), rapper Kevin Gates (https://www.kvngates.com/) and country singer/Jimmy Buffett collaborator Mac McAnally (https://www.macmcanally.com/) all play in the next few months. You want Grammy awards and platinum albums? How about Louisiana’s own Lauren Daigle (https://www.laurendaigle.com/).
All of that music may make you want to celebrate! The Wine and Chocolate Festival comes in January 2024 (https://www.greensborocoliseum.com/events/detail/wine-chocolate).
You want a circus? Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus (https://www.greensborocoliseum.com/events/detail/ringling-bros-and-barnum-bailey-presents-the-greatest-show-on-earth) visits for three days in February, and Cirque de Soleil (https://www.greensborocoliseum.com/events/detail/corteo) presents their new Corteo production for four days in March.
So yes, the budding “West End” of Greensboro has a lot to offer – nightlife, arts, music, great food – all a walk away from Stella’s Place Apartments.
